Welcome to Thursdays: The Harp

Greetings and Salutations my most humble of Thursdians,

You know, there are many bars in Milwaukee, more than I can count to be quite honest, but there has always been one that people continue to talk about throughout our Thursday night journeys. It’s one that has an amazing patio, gets crazy packed on Friday and Saturdays and has become an important location for Milwaukee’s bar scene. Of course, I am talking about The Harp, a bar that has been around since 1955 and has slowly built up its current location to become one of the most legendary bar patios in Milwaukee. Boasting one epic menu full of great beer, great cocktails, and amazing food, the Harp is one to remember. If this is not enough to make you come out this Thursday, maybe the Thursday specials will: $3 Skyy bombs and my personal favorite, $3 taps – ALL taps. I know I will happily enjoy some Guinness, 3-dollar Guinness that is, on a patio among some pretty awesome people including you, yes you.

Although, I am not sure why this Thursday’s establishment is called the Harp (Is it because the amazing Irish lager or they are just a fan of the instrument?), I can tell you of one of my favorite tales involving a harp. You see, Welcome to Thursdays has been around for roughly 2.5 years, and although every Thursday night has been an adventure, early on it was tough to convince people and the bars that we were the greatest Milwaukee social club ever. To help prove our point we had one secret weapon: Annabelle Stangel, who played the most beautiful harp you ever heard.

She could reach every single one of your emotions with her magical fingers and pluck at your very soul. You’ve heard of the Pied Piper, but you have never heard the Heavenly Harper? Our process was simple: we would go to the bar on our Welcome to Thursdays list and simply let Annie start playing. Within minutes people throughout the bar would flock our way. Once we had them hooked, we would close the deal by telling them about our group and our mission. Unfortunately, Annie had to stop playing as people started showing up at her residence at all hours of the night demanding more songs. It became too much for Annie to bare, so she tied two cement blocks to the harp, dropped it into the deepest point of Lake Moshawquit, and retired.  If you see her this Thursday, be sure to give her a high five – although Welcome to Thursdays is now a force to be reasoned with, without Annabelle Stangel, who knows where we would be!

Cheers my friends!

Your co-founder and friend,

Jeremy Blandin
