Welcome To Thursdays: Nomad Nacional

Greetings and Salutations my Thursday Night Travelers,

I want to start this week out with some congratulations to TJ and Krystal as many of us joined them this past weekend and celebrated their marriage! It was a ton of fun and really caused this writer to sit back and just enjoy the moment. Many of us who were invited to the wedding didn’t even know each other before Welcome to Thursdays and it was just humbling.

This week we will be traveling to Nomad Nacional, a “pop-up” bar celebrating the world’s game (soccer) and the community that surrounds it. Boasting an amazing menu with delicious choices for everyone, we give it the Thursday treatment just before it closes back up in October. I also want to take a moment to congratulate Mason Crosby for kicking the game-winner this past Sunday night against the Bears (Aaron Rodgers was cool too I guess). That game was one for the ages but to actually witness it live in the mecca of Wisconsin, Lambeau Field, is one memory I will not soon forget. Come out to Nomad Nacional this Thursday and maybe I’ll tell you all about it.

With all the craziness that has been going on the past few weeks with weddings, a pennant race, and Packers football sometimes you just have to take a breath and do something that relaxes you, so I decided to shut my phone off and get out to the golf course for 18 holes. I decided to use my pull writing for The Squeaky Curd and got a free round at Whistling Straits (Editor’s Note: this is a fictional account. The only thing TSC writers get for free are confused looks when we name-drop).

The course was very open that day and it almost felt as if I was golfing alone; because of this, they apparently didn’t call any caddies to come in, thus I would have to trek the course alone – but that didn’t bother me. After playing the first three holes at 3 under, well on my way to the course record, I noticed something that just simply couldn’t be real: two bears playing golf, yes that’s right two bears on the green putting. Not really sure what to do, I teed off hoping I would catch a closer look. As always, my drive was crushed 320 down the middle, I twirled my club and started to walk down the fairway.

At this point, the bears took notice and simply kept playing. I got to my ball and these bears seriously gave me the wave to play through. I approached my ball and stuck a perfect 9 iron to within 2 feet. Naturally, the bears clapped and celebrated…..naturally. I got up to the green and the bears stood aside and watched to see if I would make the putt- I did. To congratulate me, they simply reached into their bag and grabbed me a Hamm’s.

Confused, I looked up, and the bear smiled and spoke…yes…the bear spoke, “No matter how you end up today on the course, with Hamm’s by your side you will always be a winner.” I took the beer and walked on through to my next tee. I teed off and looked back only to see an empty golf course; the bears were gone and yet I still had my Hamm’s. I drank my delicious Hamm’s and finished the hole only to find another ice cold Hamm’s awaiting me on the next tee box. It was like this the remaining 13 holes. Of course, I went on to shoot a 62 and hold the course record.

Hamm it up folks!
