Greetings and Salutations my Thursday Night Companions,
When walking a golf course during the spring, the effects of winter’s bite are still relevant – but slowly you notice new life blooming. You know that soon, what winter took from you, spring and summer will give back to create the beauty in Wisconsin’s landscape. I say this because, like Wisconsin’s ever-changing landscape, Milwaukee’s once great and thriving North Ave has been going through some changes of their own. As my talented friend Joe explained a few years ago, North Ave seemed to have lost its way in this evolving city where new and exciting bars are innovating the way we spend our evenings out. After a few years of turbulence, it seems that North Ave is finding its footing and is beginning to bloom some exciting new places. This article isn’t about those places…
This Thursday we travel to one bar that has shown the genuine meaning of #truegrit. Yes, this bar stood strong as many of its neighbors got chewed up and spit out. I’m of course talking about Hooligan’s: a bar that has seen many changes, new owners, and an evolving North Ave. Hooligan’s features a sign in front calling themselves a “Super” bar – and I believe that. They have conclusively proven their worth over the years, and deserve our respect and business. It helps to have a vast selection of craft beers on tap (19 according to their website), a whopping 99 different canned beers, an excellent and friendly staff, and one heck of a food menu. I’m a fan of their wings, especially the Hot Garlic. If that’s not enough for you, Thursday nights at Hooligans are also “Boot Night” as well. I don’t know the full details, but I will tell you that for me, beer out of a boot is a beautiful thing: like your first child or getting married.
After looking at everything (and reading this article!), it would be a crime for you not to show up this Thursday as we visit this battle-tested, versed, long-serving saloon of North Ave. When all other lights went out, Hooligan’s luminous neon shined bright, blazing a path into a Milwaukee legend that stands as a beacon of hope. A hope that good times and great drinks will always be around on North Ave and in the great city of Milwaukee.
Cheers my friends!
Your Co-Founder and Friend,
Jeremy J. Blandin
