Greetings and Salutations,
A chilled wind blows softly through the air, the hue of the leaves changing ever so slightly. Sounds of cheers can be heard all around as the season of sports envelops us: it is autumn in Milwaukee and this writer is finally back in his element.
With this fantastic weather change comes this week’s destination, Halliday’s Lounge or Halliday’s Irish Pub; we’re not sure which official name it goes by as one sign says the former and another says the latter. None the less we travel to a bar full of history and gumption. It’s a bar that isn’t going to go out of its way to impress you because they know the one thing that makes a bar special is you, the patron. Offering your typical fare of beers and cocktails with the occasional game of bar dice on the side, this bar will be one that I am sure all of us can get on board with. Like a versed, battle-scarred coal miner looking over machines that replaced him, Halliday’s sits quietly amongst Milwaukee’s infamous Brady Street knowing exactly who they are and where they stand but they do not fear the future because Halliday’s is exactly what you don’t know you want.
I’ve been to plenty of bars over the years and I know a thing or two about gimmicks to attract patrons. In many ways they can be fun, but sometimes that just isn’t what you are looking for. There are some places that may feel like the world around them decided to change and not tell them: Halliday’s is one of those places. But this, my friends, is not a bad thing.
You see, sometimes you need to go to a bar to forget about the world outside for a while, a bar that legitimately transports you into its world and transcends reality. For a few short hours, you can close yourself off and just simply enjoy a pint or two with the people most important to you. A frosty stained-glass glimmering light from the ever so busy Farwell Ave reminds you of where you are, but the tasty beer and welcoming barkeep pull you right back in. After a busy week of work, responsibilities, and life in general sometimes Halliday’s is exactly what you need and I for one look forward to it.
Cheers my friends
