Good Tidings my Thursday Night Explorers,
“The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.” – G.K. Chesterton
This embodies what Welcome to Thursdays is all about: exploring places that one may never find alone. This week we travel to a place that many may not know, but will never forget after visiting. I myself have been lucky enough to have already visited George’s Pub, and I can honestly say my experience and time there have not been forgotten. You see, from the outside George’s may look like a “hole in the wall”; but it is within this tavern that we are given a truly remarkable look at Milwaukee, and one man’s life.
Many people don’t know that Dos Equis started their “Most Interesting Man in the World” Campaign after hearing about Old Milwaukee’s prestigious “Most Interesting Man in Milwaukee” title. A title, might I add, that has been held by one man for over 30 years: George Vomberg. He has won the lifetime achievement award….3 times. Once while traveling around the world, he discovered a shortcut. And, George once drank an entire half barrel of Old Milwaukee because he was a little parched.
If you are lucky enough to have a drink with George behind the bar of George’s Pub, hold on – because you are in for one heck of an adventure. You see, George has lived the lives of over a hundred men; just look at the walls of George’s pub! You will be taken on a visual journey of the history of this Milwaukee staple and the man that brought it to us. Once you are finished taking in the history, maybe you will be lucky enough to hear the voice of Johnny Cash through an impeccable cover from George himself. He is quite the musician and plays with the “Nashville Rejects”, a country band who has a mix of covers and originals.
Come on out this Thursday and sit down with a man who needs no introduction. Stay, have a beer, and listen to some pretty fantastic stories. Try some “Yak Juice”, a specialty shot made by George himself. No need to worry about your wallet, as all the drinks here are beyond reasonable. My co-founder Kyle spoke to George earlier in the week and he is looking forward to hosting the Thursday crew. So come on out and experience what makes Welcome to Thursdays so great: a little adventure with the most Interesting man in Milwaukee.
