Greetings and Salutations,
This Thursday we travel back to one of the early bars of Welcome to Thursdays, County Clare Irish Pub, to celebrate our yearly devotion to the very people that brought us up in this world: our parents! Yes, it’s that time of year for our parents to get up, get out, and celebrate how awesome they are!
We have had some pretty awesome Parents Nights in the past, with cool venues like The Newsroom Pub and Von Trier. This year is no different, as we travel across the globe to get a taste of Ireland while staying right here in Milwaukee! There’s just something special about County Clare that keeps us coming back; maybe it’s the fantastic food, the passion and care put into every pint, or maybe it’s the amazing service. Whatever it is, it works! I cannot wait to get out there this Thursday to celebrate with everyone!
I’ve always loved Parents Night because you really get to meet some amazing people and hear their stories. One story in particular really moved me, and I feel now is the best time to tell their tale.
Pat (WTT Member #55) and Tom (#42) Gutchewsky are parents to Erin (#25) and Ryan (#66) Gutchewsky. Erin went to Marquette and has lived in Milwaukee since graduating, and Ryan recently moved here; but their parents live in Naperville, Illinois. Now I get impressed when I see parents drive a long distance just to come to Parents Night for Welcome to Thursdays, heck my parents came all the way from Indiana! What Pat and Tom did is beyond legendary. They will go down in history, and WTT members will be telling their tale for many, many years.
You see Pat and Tom didn’t just come to Parents Night – no they became full-fledged members by attending four weeks in a row. Not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 consecutive weeks in a row all the way from Naperville. To put that into perspective, it is 105 miles from Naperville to County Clare, so 210 miles round trip. Multiply that by 4 and you get 840 miles in 4 weeks. Traveling an average speed of 60 mph gets you to roughly 14 hours of drive time, or 840 minutes, or 50,400 seconds! In that amount of time, you could watch the cinematic masterpiece Shrek almost 9 consecutive times.
I suppose I just want to give a huge shout out to Pat and Tom for being awesome, devoted parents and Welcome to Thursdays Members! Swing on by and say hi to them along with everyone else this Thursday at County Clare!!
Cheers my friends!
Your co-founder and friend,
Jeremy Blandin
