Greetings and Salutations,
Ring out Ahoya with a M.U.Rah Rah! Travel with us this week as we step on to the great campus of Marquette University to bring some Thursday night excitement to Caffrey’s Pub. Caff’s holds true to the reputation of being a Marquette bar and creating an environment fit for anybody looking for a good time. This Thursday is no different with the special they are offering; if you purchase a Caffrey’s Mug, you enjoy $2 mixers and beer refills!! Anytime you throw “beer” and “refill” in the same sentence you can basically guarantee that Welcome to Thursdays is interested! Besides the awesome specials and fantastic environment, I look forward to being on the hollowed campus of Marquette, not for the prestige of the university, not for the beautiful architecture – no, this writer looks forward to standing where legends have stood and where legendary bars once brought energy to those cold Milwaukee autumn nights.
Most people go through their childhood being told about the importance of a college education and its necessity in today’s world; I, on the other hand, was told tales of keggers, endless supplies of Pabst, and late night Real Chili runs. Yes, my father clearly did college right and is a Marquette alum. Don’t get me wrong, he also told me the importance of an education; but like the nutritional facts on the back of the frozen White Castle I’m about to enjoy, it’s not important right now. What is important is the legacy of Marquette bars like The Gym and The Avalanche or “Lanche” as they would call it.
Sadly, these bars no longer stand, but their story lives on whether it’s the famous “naked beer slide” at The Lanche, or the famous Basketball tappers at The Gym. Caffrey’s now occupies The Gym space and embodies this legacy by continuing to show MU students and Milwaukeeans one heck of a good time.
Many amazing people have come out of Marquette: my pops Kevin “The Pabst King” Blandin, funny man and legend Chris Farley, even a certain WTT Member (Erin Gutchewsky, Member # 25) to name just a few. I look up to these people daily and admire what they have accomplished. In many ways I am sure Marquette had a little something to do with that, and maybe, just maybe, we can all get some inspiration this Thursday at Caffrey’s.
Cheers my friends!
Your Co-Founder and Friend,
Jeremy Blandin
