Greetings and Salutations my fellow Thursdians,
Travel out with us this Thursday as we walk down memory lane at Koz’s Mini Bowl. The Thursdays crew is in for quite a treat, as we have two lanes reserved to take a crack at duck-pin bowling; essentially bowling, but shrunk down for a fast paced quackin’ good time. When you’re not hurling a 3lb. ball at 10-inch pins, spend some time taking in all the history in from this historic tavern. Built in 1890, this building has served as a Milwaukee watering hole the entire time, whilst also playing the part of a dining room and dance hall. No matter what you are doing this Thursday make sure you find a way to come on down to Koz’s to join the Thursday gang!
He speaks only the truth.
Now, many cities claim that they are the true origin city for duckpin bowling; but you and I both know that is clearly not true. Obviously, duckpin bowling was created right here in Milwaukee at the very establishment we are traveling to.
From my extensive research, I found that the invention of duckpin bowling dates back to 1894. A man by the name of Winston Pennyfold was getting fed up with the fact that he could not bowl and drink his Old Milwaukee at the same time; the bowling balls were so darn heavy, that every time he tried, he would either throw a gutter ball or even worse….spill his Old Milwaukee.
One night, Winston and his lads were having a laugh as they gave a local duck some beer (as most Milwaukeeans would…); his under-the-influence-brain suddenly thought they should throw smaller bowling balls directly at live ducks! Thankfully, this idea was immediately shot down by his friends, as no one should ever throw objects at ducks, especially Milwaukee Ducks…they are not to be trifled with. It was agreed on by the group that they would instead throw smaller bowling balls onto a smaller lane at “duck” sized pins. From then on, men and women were able to enjoy the sport of bowling whilst enjoying their ice cold Old Milwaukee hand in hand. The rest is history.
Don’t mess with Milwaukee Ducks….
