Greetings and Salutations my Friends,
No tales of Old Milwaukee will be told this week. No, this week I write about the story behind us: the Welcome to Thursdays crew. I sit here perplexed; this simple idea of exploring Milwaukee on Thursday nights has become something that is very near and dear to my heart.
It all started one chilly, February night with Kyle, my cousin and, more importantly, my friend. We were seeking warmth with a tall pint and a good conversation. After a few delicious beers from Drink Wisconsibly, we decided to take our night to Fat Daddy’s: a bar we like to call home. Kyle and I share a love for this amazing city, so it was on this night that we devised a plan to explore it as much as we could by trying a new bar every Thursday night.
After a few delicious pitchers of golden greatness, our plan suddenly evolved into buying a website. Next thing I knew, Kyle and I were the proud owners of www.jeremyandkyle.com. What happened over the next 51 weeks simply blew our minds. From hooking the earliest members like Ryan Kempf, who has has legitimately only missed 1 week (#props) to Sarah Moriarty who has been essential to the behind the scenes work for us. Let’s not forget Joe and Katie Powell, founders of The Squeaky Curd; there are no words to express the gratitude I have for them for posting my ridiculous tales of Will Ferrell and Old Milwaukee on this blog. (Editor’s Note: We love you too, Jeremy. #blessed)
The truth is, every member has a story: that’s what makes Welcome to Thursdays so great. From fighting the bitter, cold, Wisconsin air during the dark months of winter, to enjoying those warm summer nights, it has been one heck of an adventure with our readers and members. I sit back now, and it amazes me. One year and twenty-six members later we have a clothing line, membership cards, and one heck of an anniversary party. The future looks bright and full of more Old Milwaukee!
Thank you all for giving this writer something to smile about every week. Come out this Thursday and toast with me as we celebrate the greatest group of Thursday night explorers Milwaukee could ever ask for. Each Wednesday The Squeaky Curd features a fictitious history or dazzling explanation of a Milwaukee County bar that we gather at on Thursday evening.
